Aphrodite Lacquers Wrapping, Ribbons, Bows

Today I have the second Aphrodite Lacquer to show you, the deep and glowing Wrapping, Ribbons, Bows.

This is one of the best purples I have seen in a long time. I'm a bit of a purple whore! This is a deep, royal purple jelly packed to the brim with dazzling purple micro glitter. Its such a simple concept but works amazingly well. The creator said she wanted to create China Glaze Ruby Pumps in purple and I can say hand on heart that is exactly what she has achieved.

One of the things I noticed with this polish is that it looks different under different lighting, changing from a royal purple in the daylight, to a deep, sultry purple under cloudy conditions and taking on an almost blue tinge in artificial lights. No matter how you view it though its still stunning!

The formula was a little difficult to work with on its own so I decided to layer it over a base of Illamasqua Prosperity and it made for an eye popping combination. You can wear this polish without undies and achieve good coverage in 3-4 coats (depending on how thickly you paint) but I still found it a little patchy.

For these swatches I layered two coats of Wrapping, Ribbons, Bows over a base of Illamasqua Prosperity, followed by a coat of Gelous and a coat of Seche Vite.

Another thing I'll say is that this polish wears like iron. I wore this for three days (yes I really liked it enough to wear it for longer than a few hours!) and there was no tip wear or chipping :-)

Aphrodite Lacquers Make A Wish

Hey kids! Today I have the first of three Aphrodite Lacquers to show you from their recent new collection.

This is Make A Wish, a delicate white jelly polish with a pretty white/silver shimmer and little silver glitters. This polish is definitely a jelly and not a crelly, it takes 3-4 coats to get a good even, opaque coverage but its well worth the time and effort. You could always layer this over a white base if you want it to be completely opaque but I quite like the translucent quality.

The glitters lay very flat against the nail bed so theres no need for lots of top coat. The swatches here show three coats of Make A Wish followed by one coat of Seche Vite.

Nostalgic Lacquer New Wave Winter Collection: Part 2

Following on from yesterdays Nostalgic winter beauties (see here) I have the remaining two polishes that were sent to me to review. Once again I am blown away...

Karma Chameleon

Firstly I'll say that I love this song, its one that I belt out at the top of my voice in the car when it comes on the radio! The polish is utterly beautiful, a delicate white crelly base with pastel glitters in pink, yellow, green, purple and blue. The pastel glitters are vibrant enough to peek through the crelly base but still retain their delicate beauty. The crelly base is just the right consistency to give a multidimensional finish with the lower layers showing through.

For these swatches I used three coats of Karma Chameleon followed by a coat of Gelous (although it wasn't really needed) and a coat of Seche Vite. You could layer this over a white base but I love building up multiple layers of crelly polishes to get the full depth.

Girls On Film

OK there's no hiding the fact that I'm loving this collection, the only thing I'm not loving is sitting singing the songs as I polish my nails! Its now 11.05pm and I'm sat here madly singing Girls On Film (and showing my age lol)

Girls On Film is a lush strawberry pink crelly with pink and purple glitters in various shapes and sizes. It looks like I've had sweets crushed over my nails, its super cute. My favourite part of this polish is the pink square glitter, it really stands out and makes a statement.

The swatches here show three coats of Girls On Film with one coat of Gelous and a coat of Seche Vite.

Nostalgic Lacquer New Wave Winter Collection: Part 1

Hi Hussies

Today I have two of the New Wave Winter Collection by Nostalgic lacquer to share with you. This is a brilliant little collection for winter, its completely different to all of the other Christmasy themed collections and its really fun. Especially if you're an 80's baby like me!

Rock Me Amadeus

I never liked this song! It drives me potty lol! Luckily the polish is quite the opposite. If anything it could almost scrape by as a Christmasyish (yes I'm aware that's not a word) polish.

RMA is a white crelly polish with red, green and purple square and mini hex glitter and a smattering of medium sized back hex glitter just to mix things up a little. Its Christmassy without being obviously Christmassy, like a rebel Christmas polish....

The formula was excellent, I really cant fault it. The white crelly glided on smoothly and wasn't at all patchy, no fishing for glitters as plenty loaded onto the brush in one dip and the glitters lay very close to the nail so no need for masses of top coat either. The swatches here show three coats of RMA topped with one coat of Seche Vite.

Mad World

Ive been singing this all flipping day! Mad World (the polish) fits its name perfectly its a mad creation! A clear base packed with 100 different types of glitter in all shapes, colours and sizes. The glitter that stood out most for me were the black, glossy circular glitters, they reminded me of the old vinyl records that these songs would have been released on originally.

A total blast from the past, I remember going through my moms record collection (very carefully supervised!) and being fascinated that music lay in those little groves on the records...

Once again this polish was a dream to apply, here I only used one coat and look at the amount of glitter I got on the nail, this is only a fraction of the different glitters that are actually in the bottle. Every time you use this polish it will be a surprise on what you'll find and every manicure will be completely unique!

For these swatches I layered one coat of Mad World over a base of Illamasqua Stance and topped it off with a coat of Gelous and a coat of Seche Vite.

The Polish Bar Diamonds and Pearls

Today I'm in a bit of a panic because I realised that Christmas is coming and I haven't brought one single present yet. This is soooooo not like me, I'm normally done with Christmas shopping by now and its all wrapped up, I have got to get my arse in to gear!

To get me in the mood I have a polish from The Polish Bar's new Holiday 2012 Collection called Diamonds and Pearls. This is such a pretty little polish consisting of white glitters in various sizes, iridescent hex glitter, almost translucent silver glitter and unusual clear holographic glitter. Its a snow storm in a bottle.

I have a thing for wearing white glitter over a red base, its just such a cute combination and this is no exception. Here I am wearing China Glaze Phat Santa with one coat of Diamonds and Pearls and a coat of Seche Vite. I didn't need my usual coat of Gelous as the glitters lay nice and flat against the nail.

The iridescent glitter catches the light beautifully and really glows

The Polish Bar polishes are available directly from their Etsy store and from Shoppe Eclecticco. The Polish Bar also have their own Facebook page where you can keep up to date with all new releases and restocks.

Shoppe Eclecticco also have a Facebook page, so go check them out.

NailNation 3000 Eve and Purple Haze

Hello Hussies! Firstly I'd like to say a big hello to the new followers that have joined us, welcome and I hope you enjoy being a part of this wonderful little community :-)

Today I'm going back to my holographic roots! I was recently contacted by Maria from NailNation about reviewing some of her polishes for her. Now I have no idea where this little minx has been hiding because it was a total surprise to find a holographic polish creator that I didn't know about. I must have been hiding under a rock for the past year!

I received several of her polishes in the post this Saturday and my first reaction was a big, fat WOW!

I have Eve and Purple Haze to show you, set your eyes to stunned...

Eve

Eve is a beautiful mid blue polish, its not quite a royal blue but not a dark blue either (if that makes any sense at all!). This baby has holographic pigment to the moon and back, Maria seems to have a slight addiction to holo pigment and loads up everything she has into her polishes.

Eve has the regular scattered holographic effect, however in some lights there is a linear effect and when the lights are really dim there's a good scoop of fine holographic glitter to back the whole thing up.

The formula is a great texture and covers beautifully in one coat although for these swatches I've used two coats to reveal the full depth of the polish. The finish is slightly gritty due to the holographic glitter but this is easily solved with a coat of Seche Vite (which doesn't dull the holographic effect either).

Photographed in the sunlight (yes sunlight in the UK, in November!)

Oh just look at those rainbows!

Purple Haze

Purple haze is a delicate dusty plum, its Eve's pale purple sister in every way. The holo packs the same punch and there is the same holographic micro glitter to catch every available beam of light possible.

Again this polish covered well in one coat but for depth I have used two coats here. I applied one coat of Seche Vite just to smooth the gritty texture and add gloss. Once again top coat did not dull the holographic effect.

Its like a bucket full of Spectraflair threw up in this polish!

Seriously how can you not LOVE these polishes!? Maria makes her polishes in very small batches and often makes only one "pour" of each batch so once they are gone that's it. If you spot something in her for sale photographs jump on them quick because you might not get another chance.

NailNation has a Facebook page where you can search the photos for polishes that are currently for sale. There is also breaking news that NailNation 3000 polishes will be stocked by Llarowe shortly so stay tuned....
